Design process

From vision to architecture, one clear step at a time.

A disciplined design process protects your time, your budget and the quality of the result. Here is how a project moves from the first conversation to the day you move in.

Six stages

A process you can follow.

The stages below describe a typical project. Their exact scope is agreed with you at the start, and adapted to the size and nature of the work, from a single interior to a full building with approvals.

  1. Listening and site study

    Stage 01 / Understand

We begin with your vision, requirements and budget, and study the site: its dimensions, orientation, access, views, neighbours and the planning rules that apply. Typical outputs: a written brief and a site analysis.

  2. Concept and planning

    Stage 02 / Explore

Initial concepts, layouts and design ideas are developed and discussed with you. We test options for planning, massing and light until the direction is clear. Typical outputs: concept plans, sketches and visualisations.

  3. Design development

    Stage 03 / Refine

The chosen concept is refined in detail. Plans, elevations and sections are resolved, materials are selected and the interior strategy is coordinated with the architecture.

  4. Technical drawings and approvals

    Stage 04 / Document

Working drawings are prepared for construction, and approval drawings for the relevant authorities. We help you obtain the necessary permissions for construction and land use.

  5. Coordination and execution

    Stage 05 / Build

We coordinate with contractors and vendors, monitor quality and timelines, and resolve design questions on site, so that what is built matches what was designed.

  6. Handover

    Stage 06 / Deliver

The finished space is handed over as planned, ready to be lived in, worked in and enjoyed.

What makes it work

Principles behind the process.

01

Decisions in the right order

Big questions of site, plan and form are settled before details, so changes stay inexpensive.

02

Approvals planned early

Regulations are understood at concept stage, which avoids redesign when drawings are submitted.

03

Drawings you can read

We explain drawings and choices plainly, so you can make confident decisions at every stage.
